Terms of use

The simple rules for using RealRents and keeping it useful and safe for everyone.

Last updated: October 30, 2026

This is a translation; the Portuguese version prevails.

What RealRents is

RealRents is an anonymous, not-for-profit register where tenants in Lisbon share what they really pay in rent, including payments off the books and contracts not registered with Finanças.

We publish the aggregated data as open data.

Who can report, and how

Only tenants can report, and only about their own lease in Lisbon.

Each email address can make 1 report every 12 months.

The information must be true, as far as you know.

What is not allowed

Names, contact details or other details that identify landlords or other people. Offensive or defamatory text. False or repeated reports.

Automated data collection beyond the limits of the open data API, and any attempt to identify who has reported.

Moderation and removal

We may reject, hide or remove reports without notice, for example values that are out of range or reports that have been flagged.

You can delete your report at any time with your report key, under "My reports".

Open data and licence

The aggregated data is published under the CC BY 4.0 licence. You may use it freely, as long as you credit "RealRents" with a link to the website.

Downloads never include individual reports.

No guarantees

The figures are indicative and come from community reports. They are not legal, financial or property advice.

If you need legal help, speak to DECO, a lawyer or the Portal da Habitação.

Liability

RealRents is a not-for-profit service, provided as it is. To the extent the law allows, we limit our liability.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. The version in force is always the one on this page, with the date of the last update.

Governing law

Portuguese law applies. The courts of Lisbon have jurisdiction, without prejudice to mandatory consumer protection rules.
